Standin’ On a Corner in Winslow, AZ
Y'all know that song Take It Easy by the Eagles? The one that goes "I was standin’ on
a corner in Winslow, AZ such a fine sight to see. There's a girl my Lord in a flatbed
Ford slowin' down to take a look at me…" Did you know that you can actually go stand
on the corner in Winslow, AZ right next to a flatbed Ford just like in the song? Well now
you do! On my Out-Sand-Ing Road Trip last year I made my way across the state of Arizona
and made sure to stop here before stopping in Sedona. It was pretty neat and something
you definitely need to do especially if you are an Eagles fan (the band not
the football team lol). Read more about my little pit stop in Winslow below!
.
With the Eagles and “Life is a Highway” by Rascal Flatts blaring through my
speakers, I let Route 66 carry me from Petrified Forest National Park near
Holbrook to the Standin’ on the Corner Foundation in Winslow.
.
.
I parked my Ford along the street, grabbed my tripod, and with my Eagles
shirt on I made my way to the corner. (Jeez….that kind of sounds like I’m
about to start working the street. Lol) This part of Winslow
was definitely hopping. Cars were cruising up and down ole Route 66 and looking
around I saw so many little shops where you could buy various things including (of course) Eagles
and Route 66 memorabilia. Over the speakers you could hear the Eagles being
played with Take It Easy an obvious favorite.
.
There were quite a few people there to take their picture, with me being by far
the youngest of the group, and so I waited patiently for my turn while also
trying to avoid talking to this homeless man in the street who took a liking
to me. *nervous laughter*
.
While I was waiting I agreed to take a photo of these ladies and it was at this moment that
my tripod, which I had set up behind me, decided it wasn’t going to stand around any
longer and allowed the wind to body slam it into the ground. I turned to check
on it and the part that held my phone was in pieces. *sigh* Now I was without a
tripod and it was only day 6 of my 18 day excursion.
.
The ladies whose picture I took offered to take some of me since my tripod was out
of commission and I would love to insert those pictures here, buuuuut unfortunately they
didn’t manage to actually snap any pictures at all. I swear I-phone users never know how to
work a real smartphone like my Samsung. Hahahaha Just kidding.
These will have to do.

Glenn Frey statue (For those of you who aren't Eagles fans this guy was one of their lead singers and founding members.)
.
I did manage to at least get a pic with the Ford so that was cool!
"It's a girl my lord in a flatbed Ford..."
.
I brought my busted tripod back to my truck and then made my way over
to the Sipp Shoppe for some much needed lunch.

I ordered a hot dog and a chocolate shake (a typical Amy meal) to go and then with my food
in my lap I continued on my drive to Sedona, Arizona (and of course managed
to spill ketchup all over my clothes along the way. Thank goodness for Wet Wipes! lol)
.
Winslow feels like a small step back in time with Route 66
running right through it’s center, the statue tribute to the Eagles, the old school
tunes playing over the speakers, and of course places like the Sipp Shoppe that
have that old school charm/feel to them. So even though I didn’t spend much
time in Winslow I definitely think it is "such a fine sight to see."
