Foodie Friday: Stearman Airfield Bar & Grill - Benton, KS
To celebrate my brother’s 25th birthday my family decided to go out to
eat at a restaurant I had never heard of in a small town I had
never been to, Stearman Airfield in Benton, KS. Everyone
I had talked to prior to visiting had said Stearman was a great place to
eat and if they hadn’t made it there yet they really really wanted to so scroll on
down to see if this tiny town restaurant lives up to its big time hype.

Our big group of 6 walked into the busy Stearman Field and gave our
name to the hostess waiting for our turn to be seated. Since there
was a bit of a wait time my dad and brother decided that was the perfect
excuse to belly up to the bar.
.
Adam and Jordyn...peek dad and rest of group on other side of bar
.
We sat at the bar waiting for quite some time and when my brother noticed
that a group who had gotten there after us were immediately seated he sent
dad over to the hostess stand to see what the deal was. I guess they must
have just forgotten about our group because as soon as dad talked to the
hostess we were seated at a table.
.
We perused their big menu all of us starving and ready to eat the supposedly great food.
.
.
I decided we needed an appetizer of the kickin' pilot potatoes, because, potatoes, and
Adam wanted to give their chips, salsa, and queso a try.
.
.
For our main dishes the majority of the table decided to try the country fried steak with a side salad
.
.
while Adam ordered himself a meat lovers pizza drizzled with BBQ sauce
.
.
and I went with the ribs with a side of mac & cheese and corn.

Table Reviews:
.
Dad: 9.9/10
.
Dad said everything he ate had a type of special flavor to it, but in a very
good way. He would definitely come back to eat there again and the only
reason his rating wasn’t 10/10 was because of the long wait time to be
seated. Although he did enjoy having more time to sit at the bar. Lol
.
Birthday Boy Adam: 9.5/10
.
Adam also wasn’t a fan of the long wait time to be seated saying that
it just “didn’t sit right with him,” but he enjoyed the food. Specifically the
queso and salsa which he said was absolutely AMAZING.
.
Jordyn, Becky, and Jet: 9/10
.
Again the seating was a complaint with the other ladies in the
group, but they all agreed that the food was excellent and delicious. Becky
said she had never had the pilot potatoes before, but thought they were
amazing and Jet was very impressed by the large amount of food you got.

Stearman Airfield Stats:

Cleanliness/Decor: 10/10

Overall Rating: 9.3/10

I walked into Stearman Field and was immediately struck by the decor of the
place. I loved the outside of the building with its tin walls and name big and proud
on the wall by the front door. Inside it was very open with super tall ceilings and
of course filled with airplane decor. It had a super chill vibe and almost felt like you
were eating at an outdoor kitchen/patio at your rich friend’s house. We even got to
watch multiple planes take off and land while we were there! Our waitress for our visit
was great, staying on top of things and making sure we were taken good care of and
even managed to get my brother some extra chips, salsa, and queso for his birthday.
The only reason the service rating wasn’t 5/5 was because we were forgotten
about at the beginning. Finally let’s talk about the food. I fully agree with Becky
on the pilot potatoes….they were freaking bomb. I seriously would do some illegal
things for those potatoes. Lol My ribs were also really good with good flavor, the corn
was done right, and the mac and cheese was absolutely perfect. I could
eat gallons of that mac and cheese. Definitely a place I would return to in a heartbeat.
