Reading Banned Books: Fahrenheit 451

"A book is a loaded gun." -Ray Bradbury, Fahrenheit 451
.
Banned Books week, an annual event created to celebrate our

FREEDOM to read, is fast approaching (October 1st-7th). This week was

started in 1982 and since then there has been more than 11,300 books

that have been challenged in some form or another. 11,300 books in

about 40 years. Titles like "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Looking For

Alaska," "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," "1984," "The Handmaid's Tale," "Hunger Games," and, the

book Kelly and I chose to read this last week, "Fahrenheit 451" all help to

make up the large list. All books I have read and enjoyed. All books that

will really make you THINK....but alas there in lies the issue. Banning

books might not seem like a big issue to some. Shoot it didn't seem like one

to me until just recently, but, especially after reading "Fahrenheit 451," it is

easy to see how important having the freedom to read, the freedom to

think, really is. So stop mindlessly scrolling on social media and go

pick up one of these banned/challenged books. Take your time reading it

and let it make you question, make you feel, and make you think. You won't regret it.
