Friday Eve Flashback: October 2024
Oh October what a busy month you were, but man did I have a blast. So sad it is all over and that I have to wait another year until I see you again.
.
.
I started off October with a besties day date! First we hit up Norm’s Coffee shop in Newton, a place I had been dying to try after finding out about their specialty waffles they have over the weekends! And let me tell you, it was soooo worth the wait! Cass and I snagged some fall and Halloween coffee cup coozies as well, tried out their waffle of the weekend, and of course their coffee and smoothies!
After Norm’s we headed on our way to Wichita to run some errands and stopped to have lunch at BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse. With it being October they had a ton of fun Halloween themed drinks and pizookie!
The start of October also brought with it the start of a new job! In addition to my full time gig I am also now working part time doing the social media for Cat House, a cat shelter in McPherson! Honestly this is a little bit like a dream come true to actually have a paying social media job AND one that helps cats find their furever homes! It is the best thing in the world. So go and give us a follow over on Tiktok @cathousemac, Instagram @cathousemcpherson, and on Facebook!
In October there were also a ton of classic films being shown at local theatres so I took advantage of that and went to go see The Shining at the McPherson Opera House.
During the 2nd weekend in October it was time to complete something I never thought I would be able to do….run a half marathon. Joined by another bestie, Melaina, we ran 13.1 miles through the city of Wichita in the Prairie Fire Half Marathon and BOTH walked away with hardware, PRs, and a huge amount of pride in ourselves for completing such an ambitious goal. (You can see more from the half marathon weekend here!)
Found the perfect little stool to help me wash my hands after doing the shake out run 5k the morning before the big race. lol
Alex, Melaina, and I all went to Botanica for their Jack O Lantern Spectacular the night before the half.
Got my race day outfit all laid out.
Never thought I would be holding a medal like this.
WE DID IT!
The week following the marathon was another busy one as well featuring a visit to the Orpheum Theatre in Wichita to watch an anniversary screening of The Amityville Horror (seeing this movie on the big screen really did make for a whole different viewing experience) followed by a ghost hunt of the theatre! (Shoutout to Alex and Melaina for joining me! Maybe there will be most ghost hunts together in the future ;) )
Is the theatre haunted? I think maybe so! And the ghosts that are there all seem pretty nice….and they liked me.
The night after the ghost hunt I returned to the theatre with Melaina for their annual Rocky Horror Picture Show showing!
We dressed up as party goers!
THEN, the night after Rocky Horror, it was time for Nicole and I’s annual Halloween party! Welcome to Carnevil! (See more of the party here!)
A few days after our Halloween party it was time to celebrate my 29th birthday! Inching closer to that big 3-0! lol To celebrate I made Rice Krispie treat pumpkins for my coworkers and spent the night with some of my fave humans Cass and Beau! (and per usual we neglected to take a pic together lol)
Here’s to 29!
The night after my birthday I went with my friends Melissa and Melaina to the Haunted Forest haunted attraction in Smolan, Kansas. If you haven’t been to this during spooky season you 10000% need to go next year! It is soooo well done and so much fun! They even had a DJ playing music for everyone waiting in line to go in! It was like a party!
The next morning I was up bright and early for another race although this one was a much easier one. It was the Monster Dash at Strataca, an underground 5k through the salt mine! This time Melaina joined me and man did I have a blast! AND we got some more hardware to add to the collection!
Later that same day I joined Cass, Beau, Cooper, Tessa, and Reagan at Walters Pumpkin Patch to have a little fall fun!
The pumpkin patch fun didn’t end there though because the next day Cass, Beau, Cooper, and I went to another pumpkin patch in the area, P&M!
HAD to get their apple cider shake and donuts!
