Foodie Friday: The Coneburg Grill & Pub - Peabody, Kansas

On a freezing snowy Friday night I made my way to The Coneburg

Grill & Pub in Peabody, Kansas. This was my first time ever

setting foot inside this place which apparently was an insanely

shocking feat evidenced by the way everyone I know looked at

me like I had two heads when I said it. Y'all in all honesty I had

never even heard of this place before! I guess I didn't get out much when

I was in high school, or college, or really now. Lol Anyway

below you will find my review of this (apparently popular lol)

small town bar. Hope you enjoy!

I ran through the door of The Coneburg to get out of the

freezing cold and blowing snow and was immediately

struck by the decor. The inside has the feel of roadside bar

meets hunting cabin with the most surprising aspect

being a huge wood burning stone fireplace sitting next to the second entrance.

.

The Coneburg is seat yourself so my friend Justin and I picked a 4 person

table with chairs on one side and a booth seat on the other. Our waitress

came to our table fairly quickly with menus and took our drink orders. She

was super nice and definitely knowledge about the menu giving me a

long list of their most popular and best dishes when I asked her.

.

When she came back with our drinks we told her we were waiting on

someone else so we were going to order our food then, but I think what

she heard was "you can forget about us" because not long after this a

big group came in through the door and we didn't see her again for quite some time

even though the rest of our party got there about the same time.

.

After about an hour from the time we arrived we finally got to put in

our food order. Y'all we got to The Coneburg (hungry) at 6:30pm

and did not get our appetizer until 8:00pm and then our food came out

about 8:30pm. So my advice? Bring a big group because they all got their food and left before we even saw our appetizer.

.

The Food

Now I don't know if it was because I was so hungry, but I honestly want to say

that the majority of our food was worth the wait.

.

.

For our appetizer we ordered the Smoked Nachos which sounded amazing, but

were a bit of a disappointment. I definitely think they needed a lot more cheese

and meat, but the chips were nice and thin and the beer cheese on them was

the perfect consistency with a good flavor. I wasn't a huge fan of the pulled pork

though to be honest which really surprised me. My brother said they were 2/5 stars.

.

.

I ordered the recommended chicken fried steak sandwich with mashed potatoes

and a side of gravy which I then put on my sandwich. Y'all when I tell you

that this was insanely delicious I am not kidding. I would even go as far

as to say that it was as good if not better than Chick-Fil-A. Yeah...I went

there. It was so worth the wait and I return again just for this sandwich in a heartbeat.

And I highly recommend you get extra gravy to put on the sandwich cause that brought it to the next level.

.

.

Next up we have my brother's meal which was the Barnyard Burger.

He scarfed down this burger so dang fast I was lucky to get a picture of it! Lol

His review? "It was AMAZING."

.

.

Finally, my last two group members got the same meal, which is what my dad

said he heard was the best thing they had here, mountain oysters aka bull

testicles. Lol I myself have tried these in the past (not from The Coneburg, but

other places) and so I already knew my stance on their taste...not for me.

Thankfully Justin and Greg ordered them and provided the review so I

didn't have to. Lol Overall, both said that they have had waaay better ones

from there in the past and that overall they weren't very consistent texture wise.

Justin gave them the benefit of the doubt though since the bar was a little on

the busier side and rated them 7/10.

.

After our meal two more of my friends showed up and we sat around for

another hour or so drinking beers and swapping stories. (Well, they were all drinking beers. Lol)

.

The Menu

.

.

The Coneburg Stats

Service: 4/10

Food: 8/10

Cleanliness/Decor: 6/10

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 6/10

.

So what are my final thoughts on The Coneburg? Well, I thought the food

was pretty dang good, but the service could have definitely been better. I wasn't

in a hurry when I was there, but having to wait an hour and a half to get food

and feel like we had been pushed aside because of bigger groups just didn't sit

right with me. I mean I was getting hangry y'all! Lol I think this is a great place to

go if you want to sit and drink with friends or go to eat when they aren't busy.
