Foodie Friday: The Barn - Burrton, KS

This place has been on my “to visit” list for quite some time, but insane wait

times always seemed to throw a wrench in the plans any time I tried to visit

this popular eatery in the past. This time though Justin and I made sure to get

there nice and early and finally I got to try The Barn. Scroll on down to read our thoughts!

As I mentioned in the opening paragraph this place can get pretty busy and they

don’t take reservations so if you are wanting to get a spot without having to

wait you are going to want to come early, especially on the weekends. Justin

and I arrived at the restaurant at about 5pm and were able to get sat at a table right

away. However, by the time we left around 6pm there was already a LONNNNG line.

So again, come early!

.

Our waiter was at our table fairly quickly and got our drink orders and

then we ordered an appetizer of the cheese fries.

Hard to go wrong with loaded potatoes. Kind of wish we would have gotten sour cream on the side though (I'm not a fan) and we both thought, even with all the toppings, the fries could have used a little more seasoning.

.

For our main dishes Justin got the Philly Cheese Steak with sweet potato fries.

.

And I got the chicken fried chicken meal with mashed potatoes and corn.

.

After we ate as much of the food as we could (we both again left with leftovers) we

unsuccessfully tried to grab our waiter so I could get a slice of their homemade

pie. Unfortunately he handed us our ticket and was off before we got a

chance to ask so afterwards we made a quick trip to Walmart for one of their pies.

Unfortunately this pie was not good at all and had a very strong tangy flavor to the filling that neither of us liked.

.

Here’s a look at their menu:

.

In the end Justin ended up giving The Barn a 7/10. He said that it was a nice

place, but thought that the food was a little bland. It was good just didn’t have a

lot of flavor. However, he really liked the aesthetic of the building and that

is what really saved the rating. (We both agreed that our food at 5 Loaves

Country Kitchen was better which surprised us both.)

.

The Barn Stats:

Service: 4/10

Food: 6/10

Cleanliness/Decor: 10/10

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 6.7/10

.

Unfortunately reality didn’t quite live up to the expectations I had for this

restaurant. It was very obvious our waiter did NOT want to be there and he

was really good at asking how we were doing without actually stopping to

listen to our response. The food was good, but not the great quality I had heard

about and it definitely could have used a LOT more seasoning. The decor/aesthetic

of the place though was absolutely amazing and saved this rating for sure. I would

go back to The Barn again and give them another try (especially to try their pie!), but

probably only if I am invited to go by someone else.
