Foodie Friday: Öl Stuga - Lindsborg, Kansas
The small town of Lindsborg, KS leans into its Swedish roots so hard it just might
have you thinking you took a little trip overseas rather than a good ole drive down
the highway and walking into Öl Stuga (translated to Ale Cottage) is no different.
Scroll on down to read more about this college town bar whose love for history
and tradition make it a perfect fit for the town.

Justin and I met at Öl Stuga a little after 6:30 on a Tuesday night. Walking
inside I was immediately hit by the decor of the place. It was a little dark
with the walls (and tables) full of pictures and plaques. However, the thing
that really caught my eye were the dollar bills hanging from the
ceiling (which according to the back of the menu
were part of a tradition for Bethany College students).
.
Justin and I ended up grabbing a corner booth right inside the door and a
bartender came over to take our drink orders (both of us ended up getting
water which surprised the crap out of me since Justin will almost always
order a beer when he can lol) and handed us menus to peruse.
.
For the first time before a Foodie Friday experience I hadn't taken the time
to look over the menu before arriving and I have to admit I was a little shocked
to see a smaller menu with only sandwiches as the option. It’s a bar so I was
expecting fried food and burgers however with neither Justin or I being super
hungry and the heatwave threatening to melt each and every one of us
outside a sandwich actually sounded perfect.
.
.
Justin went back and forth between the reuben and the Brent Nelson for
some time, but eventually went with the sandwich he had heard being
hyped up as "the best sandwich on the menu," the Brent Nelson.
.
.
Little Miss Picky Eater on the other hand decided to craft my own sandwich
complete with ham, turkey, mayo, and American cheese all on a submarine
roll. So pretty much my subway order. lol

Justin's Review:
8/10 for the sandwich
7/10 for the bar itself
.
So unlike me this wasn't Justin's first time at Öl Stuga so he missed out on
that lovely first time feeling, but he said that while the Brent Nelson was a little
on the basic side it was good and did in fact live up to all the hype. (Justin was
nice enough to let me try a bite of his sandwich and I gotta say that I agree. I wish
I would have gotten that instead cause it was delicious!) He also said that the bar
itself was interesting, making him think of a bar you might find down in Key West
with the hodge podge of stuff covering the walls and he also appreciated the history
section on the back side of the menu.

From the moment you walk in this place screams hole in the wall, but in the
best way possible. In fact, I'm pretty sure if you didn't know it was there
there is a good chance you would miss it driving by so I guess it's a good thing
I wrote this article for ya because I think missing it would be a shame. I really liked how
they lean into their history, are proud to showcase their achievements and
customers, and even have their own traditions they follow every year such as the
dollar bills on the ceiling. It is easy to see how much they care about their community
and how much they want to be a part of it which I think is very commendable.
I also thought the service was good. Our food came out pretty quick and the guys
working the bar were polite and doing a great job. Finally, we have the food. Both of
our sandwiches were good; Justin's living up to the hype and mine loaded down with
so much meat I had to take half of it home. Definitely would go back again especially
to get my own Brent Nelson sandwich!
