I rolled up to Hickory Hut a little after 7pm Wednesday night and the place

was absolutely packed. Not only was the parking lot full, but the line

for the drive-through was at least 7 cars deep! I grabbed the last remaining

parking spot in the lot and then headed inside to meet up with my other Foodie Friday

reviewers for the evening, Justin (of course) and Amanda.

.

I joined them at the register and then frantically searched the huge menu

of food hanging up on the wall trying to decide what I wanted to eat. I’m

too indecisive for such snap decisions especially when I am starving

and everything on the menu sounds good! lol

.

.

Eventually I made a decision, grabbed my number, and joined Justin and

Amanda at the last remaining table in the place. We sat and talked for

a little bit and then our food was out with honestly impressive speed

given how busy the place was.

.

Amanda ordered a brisket sandwich

.

Justin the brisket sandwich with a side of sweet potatoes and baked beans

.

And I ordered The Slammer which is a polish sausage (mild) topped with

beef and pork all on a bun with a side of french fries.

.

The Reviews:

.

Amanda is from California and she was telling us that brisket isn’t

something you can usually just order at a restaurant so she was pretty

happy to get to eat some here. She ended up giving the place

a 10/10 saying she liked the brisket.

.

Justin fell in love with the cumin infused secret sauce that came with

our meals, but did say he wished they had more options for bbq sauce as far

flavors and heats go. In the end he gave his food a 9/10 and the building

itself an 8/10 (he wasn’t a huge fan of all the stuff on the walls saying

it was a little bit too much) which means an overall rating of 8.5/10.

The lady at the register was super nice, happy, and thankfully very patient

with me while I struggled to pick what I wanted to eat. Other than that though

the place is serve yourself including drinks and to go boxes so my service

rating is solely based on the lovely register interaction I had. The inside of

the building is a little on the smaller side, but they still managed to fit quite a few tables

and booths in there in a way that is easy to maneuver about and the walls look as

though someone didn't want to have an inch not covered with something. Think the

gallery walls at Hogwarts level full. Finally, the food. I wasn’t as in love with the cumin secret

sauce as Justin was, but I still thought it was alright and quite frankly an interesting and

unique choice. However, I would rather stick with BBQ sauce and ketchup if we

are being honest. lol The Slammer itself was pretty dang good and loaded down with meat

although I do wish there would have been less cumin and cumin sauce on it. My poor

stomach was not down for that. Lol I also loved how The Slammer was almost like a sampler meal since you got to try out 3 of their different meat options with just this one food item.

Honestly the entire place gave me fair vibes (I mean, come on, The Slammer is 1000% something

you would see at the fair lol) which in a way makes sense given how they started out, but I am here for it. Definitely still a place I will return to!
