Foodie Friday: The Spot & Dining Car - Herington, KS

In the small town of Herington, KS there sits a bar my dad tells me was THE spot back

in the day. (Guess they nailed the name. lol) He said many fights and many

many beers were drank there and that continues to be the case to this day, well, at

least the drinking part. lol Scroll on down to read our review for the bar that made it on

the top ten list of best Hole in the Wall Bars in Kansas, The Spot.

After an impromptu call to my dad to talk about a truck stop

restaurant (my dad is a truck driver so if anyone knows truck stop restaurants it is him)

I found myself driving to Herington to have dinner with him and Jet.

.

.

I parked in the almost full parking lot about 6:30pm and we walked inside

surprised to see tables still open. We grabbed a booth and started perusing

the menu. (Apparently there was a birthday party back in the beer

garden and that is why the parking lot was so full.)

.

.

One cool thing about this bar is their Thursday night specials. Every Thursday

night is wing night (the only night you can get wings here) AND beer is $2

if you get it in a red solo cup. We opted to pass on the wings, but dad did take

them up on the $2 beer special. lol

.

.

Our waitress wasted no time and was at our table taking our drink and

food orders. Once the food order was in we didn't have to wait

long before it arrived at our table.

.

Dad ordered the Philly cheesesteak sandwich with a side of fries

.

Jet ordered the pork loin sandwich with a side of sweet potato fries

.

.

and I went with the club sandwich (sans tomato) and a side of fries.

Dad's Review

.

"The Philly Cheesesteak sandwich is out of this world. There is none finer.

This is what I get every time I come here and the Texas Toast is a real game changer."

.

Jet's Review

.

"It was good, there is a lot of good food, and it is all reasonably priced."

Walking into The Spot you can instantly feel the nostalgia and the sense of home. It is almost

like walking in through the doors of your old high school. The ceiling is covered with

advertisements from local businesses and running into someone you know is inevitable.

The service here is great. All the waitresses are super nice and each one checked on

us throughout the night even if they weren't waitressing our table. They make sure you

are taken care of here. For me I have to say the food is good, but similar to most bars.

However, I will say that the addition of the Texas toast for some of their sandwiches is, like

dad said, a real game changer. I would go back again even to just hang with friends.
