Foodie Friday: Papa's General Store - Wichita, KS

Last week while at The Point (review here) Caitlin recommended to me Papa’s

General Store in Wichita for their crazy shakes so when my brother, his girlfriend, and

I decided to skip out on the Alabama concert I figured it was the perfect time

to give these monster shakes a try! Scroll on down to see what we thought!

Papa’s General Store sits in Clifton Square which honestly in itself is a really

neat little place. Here you can do a little shopping, eat dinner at Dempsey’s

or Ziggy's Pizza and then walk on over to Papa’s General Store for

dessert. Minus the tiny parking lot for the area it is extremely convenient.

.

We walked through the door to the General Store and immediately found

ourselves at the order counter. I did a quick glance at the menu up above the

counter and then asked the guy working the counter which shakes were the most popular.

He immediately responded with Caramel Cheesecake Craze and Oreo Explosion.

Since I am not a huge fan of caramel or cheesecake I decided to go with

the Oreo Explosion. (Later I wished I would have ordered last in the group cause Jordyn

ended up getting the same thing as me, but oh well. Guess I just have to

go back to try some of their other shakes. lol)

Adam decided to be boring and got a plain ole cookies n cream ice cream cone. lol

Reviews:

.

My little bro for some reason isn't a huge fan of sweets like his sister so

he didn't have much to say for his review, but did tell me he thought

his ice cream was "pretty damn good" and that it had a "nice even balance

of cookies to cream." lol He ended up giving the place an overall rating of 7.5/10.

.

Jordyn on the other hand had a little more to say about her shake. She

said the shake she had was probably "the biggest shake of her life" and

was surprised to see that they aren't unreasonably priced considering how

much you actually get. Overall she said she absolutely loved it and that it

was "a good thing they don't live closer." lol She gave the place 8.5/10 if not a 9/10.

.

Papa's General Store Stats:

Service: 4/5

Food: 4/5

Cleanliness/Decor: 4/5

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 4/5

.

Walking in to Papa's General Store I have to admit that I was surprised to see

a more modern decor style instead of them leaning into the whole idea of an

old school general store. Not that I wasn't a fan, because I was. I especially loved

the faux grass wall with the neon sign that said "I love you un-cone-ditionally." Puns

in neon lettering? Oh you bet your bottom dollar that is my jam!

.

.

I also thought the

service there was pretty good. The kid working the front counter was polite and our

ice cream and shakes came out pretty quickly considering the layers of sweet goodness

that went into making them. (Seriously there is so much stuffed into these shakes it is

like a whole meal!) Now as for the shakes, I am going to have to say they weren't the

best shakes I have ever had. Did they look awesome? Oh heck yeah. However, the flavor

just wasn't quite it for me. Like don't get me wrong...it was good....but it reminded me a little bit of the

milk ice cream I tried from Milk Bar when I was in Vegas which wasn't my favorite.

However, if you think that means I won't be returning to Papa's General Store in the

future you would be wrong. I have my eyes on the Reese's Rendezvous

and Death by Chocolate shakes.
