Foodie Friday: Broadway Station - Herington, KS
Last week I got a phone call from my dad in which he asked if I had any plans for
Saturday night. Not two minutes later I had committed not only myself, but also my
brother Adam and Nick, to dinner at the new bar in Herington, KS, Broadway Station.
I had heard rumblings that this place was opening, but I wasn't entirely sure where
it was or that the grand opening was happening so soon and I was pretty excited to get to try it with some of
my favorites. Hope you enjoy reading!

Adam, Nick, & I walked in to the bar and the place was PACKED. We managed to find my
dad and the rest of the fam at a table right by the stage (of course) and then proceeded
to try and squeeze all 7 of us at a 4 person table. It was definitely...cozy. lol
.
Dad, who was really looking forward to some steak, told us that their grand opening
the night before had been so busy the place had run out of most of their food so
unfortunately the menu the night we were there was limited to only
pulled pork sandwiches and a few appetizers. Oh and of course drinks. lol
.
.
After a few drinks everyone that was eating that night put in their
order for pulled pork sandwiches with their choice of side.

Crew Reviews:
.
Allen: 8/10
.
"It was good. Service was very attentive...when they were here. I
recommend." He also said he liked how they had such a nice, big open area.
.
Louise: 8/10
.
"It was good. It's the first weekend so they have some learning to do, but they are off to a good start!"
.
Dad: 8.5/10
.
"Good....they just need a little tweaking."
.
Jet: 5/10
.
"They have a lot to learn, but it can be good if they get it straight. We got
our food timely, but everything else took awhile."
.
Adam: 4/10
.
Adam was probably the least impressed one in the group saying he thought the reason
for what he considered a poor performance was having too many people trying to
get things done and not enough people in charge to make sure that things
were actually getting done. He also wasn't happy with how his doubles
of Crown and Coke seemed to be missing the Crown.
.
Nick: 6/10
.
Nick agreed with Jet that the service was slow and said that the food really
wasn't all that great. However, he gave them a slight pass with his rating
since they just opened and said he might possibly try them again later down
the road. He also said that the live music was sadly a let down.

Reviewing restaurants RIGHT after they have opened is tricky and usually
something I try to avoid because there are ALWAYS unavoidable opening kinks
everyone has to deal with, which was certainly the case this time. The bittersweet
success of a busy grand opening night gave way to a limited menu the night we
were there and while I personally didn't think the food was bad, it wasn't mind-blowing and for me there just
wasn't enough of it. I also didn't have a super poor experience with the service as I thought
our food came out in a timely manner. However, it wasn't long before everyone
else at the table figured out it was best to order your next drink before you were
done drinking the one you already had and to just order two at once because maybe
then you wouldn't be left waiting without a drink in your hand. I really liked the
interior of the place. The décor was a nice modern rustic style and the openness of
the area helped make our cramped eating situation feel less suffocating. I could see how it would be
a great chill place to come to listen to music and hang out with friends on a Friday/Saturday
night. All in all I think this place definitely has a lot of potential and I'm hoping a little
ways down the road they are able to work out some of the opening issues so I can
try them again and improve their rating.
