31 Reasons Why I Think Halloween is the Best Holiday - Blogtober #7
The other day at work I was talking to my friend Cam who is convinced
Halloween is the worst holiday around. Being a Halloween lover myself
this proclamation came as quite a shock to me because I simply cannot wrap
my head around someone hating Halloween, the best holiday ever invented.
He proceeded to list reasons why Halloween was terrible and Christmas was
better and so i decided to create my own list….31 reasons why Halloween
is the best holiday. So Cam I hope you read this and come to your senses about Halloween.
.
.
1.) Clothes
.
.
This is the one time of year where I can dress as spooky as I want
and not get too many weird looks.
(Not that that actually stops me from wearing spooky clothing any other
time of year. My Halloween clothes are good all year round!) Dressing in all
black like Johnny Cash, wearing bloody
knife earrings, and shirts with horror movie killers are just some of the
outfits you will see me sporting extra during the Halloween season.
.
2.) Decorations
.
.
I LOVE Halloween decorations and decorating for Halloween. It is
easily the holiday I decorate the most for every year and I wouldn’t trade it.
.
3.) Halloween Movies
.
Unlike Christmas movies with their same cheesy romantic plots, Halloween
movies have the ability for each to be unique so it doesn't feel like you
are watching the same movie over and over again.
.
4.) Weather
.
Sure it starts to get colder around Halloween, but I can tell you
right now that I would much rather have Halloween cold instead of
Christmas cold! Plus it is a nice break from the heat of
summer and it just gives you the perfect excuse to wear cute sweaters!
.
5.) Fall Is Here!
.
.
Halloween is the kickoff event for the best season of the year.
.
6.) Costumes
.
.
I have always loved dressing up and being someone else for a
little while and Halloween gives me the opportunity to do just that!
.
7.) Halloween Party
.
.
Every year my friend Nicole and I host a Halloween party with friends and
family and while it is stressful it is my biggest and favorite event of the year.
One day I want it to be such a huge thing that we have to rent out a place
and it is like The Night Before where you have to know someone who
knows someone to get the coveted ticket.
.
8.) Nicole Comes Back
.
Oh and speaking of Nicole…she currently lives in Michigan, but comes
back home to Kansas every year for the party so Halloween is easily
my favorite because I get to see her!
.
9.) Haunted Houses
.
.
Whether you get your adrenaline pumping from being scared
or your stomach hurts from laughing at friends, haunted houses are always a blast.
.
10.) Sweet Treats
.
Candy, caramel apples, Halloween cookies, and more. If you have
a sweet tooth this holiday is definitely for you.
.
11.) No Candy Guilt
.
Speaking of sweet treats and candy…I am not really a huge candy
person, but Halloween is the one time of year where I let myself have
some in the house and enjoy them when I want as much as I want without feeling bad. Give me allll the Reese's. Lol
.
12.) It Is Chill
.
This is the time of year where you can slow down and just enjoy. There
is no stress with worrying about what presents to buy for friends
and family or having to cook a huge meal
and the cool fall weather makes you just want to cozy up on the couch
wearing an oversized sweater while surrounded by pumpkins.
.
13.) Halloween Music
.
Unlike Christmas music Halloween music doesn't get old or sound
repetitive because really anything with spooky vibes could
be considered Halloween music allowing for more variety in the songs.
.
14.) The Colors
.
Black and orange are my two favorite colors so having a holiday that
involves them makes it a pretty easy choice for the best holiday.
AND not only do you have the holiday colors, but also the colors of
the changing leaves which I also love to see.
.
15.) Spirit Halloween is OPEN
.
.
Spirit Halloween is one of my favorite places to shop because it is
allll Halloween allll the time. Could (and have) easily spend entire paychecks there.
.
16.) Spoooooky Events
.
.
Not only are haunted houses up and running, but so are
other spooky events like zombie paintball and "Escape From Michael Myers."
.
17.) There's magic in the air…literally?
.
There is just something about the Halloween season that feels different.
It is as if the moon uses the spirit of Halloween to charge the days
making them feel electric and magical. It is as if anything is possible.
.
18.) Pets in Halloween Costumes
.
.
It seriously doesn't get any cuter.
.
19.) Creativity is at an all time high
.
.
Not only does Halloween offer an opportunity to be creative with
concocting ideas and executing costumes, but also when it comes
to decorations and food. My DIY and creative side is in overdrive
every Halloween and it is great!
.
20.) Halloween Specials
.
.
During this time of year channels and tv shows do special episodes for
Halloween that are more fun and unique than their others. Like for instance
every year during the week before Halloween YouTubers Sam and Colby do an
entire Hell Week where they feature bigger and better videos every day.
.
21.) Horror Movie Marathons
.
I have horror movie marathons all year round, but during Halloween
I really jack up the amount of marathons (and the amount of horror movies I watch) turning them into
bigger events with themed snacks and decorations.
.
21.) More Ghost Hunt Opportunities
.
.
Halloween has always been a time of year where spirits are said to be
more active as the veil between the spirit world and ours is thought
to be thinner. This leads to certain places offering more ghost hunts
and even some places that don't typically host ghost investigations
offering them only during the Halloween season.
.
23.) Smells
.
There is nothing that smells better than a nice crisp October
morning with leaves gently falling from the branches in the trees.
Add in the wonderful smell of pumpkin spice and a nice warm
apple pie and my nose is in heaven.
.
24.) Scares Bring the Laughs
.
There is just something absolutely hilarious about seeing someone's
face light up in pure terror. Wow….that sounded kind of serial killer-y
lol I just mean that it is funny to see someone freak out momentarily
during a jump scare. Lol
.
25.) Whole Towns Transform Into Real Life Halloweentowns
.
.
Every year the towns of Salem, Massachusetts and Sleepy Hollow, New
York transform into THE places to be for Halloween lovers. After visiting
both last year I can easily say that they are must visit locations during
spooky season. It was an amazing experience.
.
26.) Pumpkins
.
.
There is just something about pumpkins that makes
me smile every time I see them. Add in the fun of pumpkin
patches, carving jack-o-lanterns, pumpkin spice candles, and
pumpkin flavored foods it is easy to see how great pumpkins are.
.
27.) Corn Mazes
.
Apparently I didn’t learn anything from Children of the Corn because I have
absolutely no problem walking into a corn field with a maze. In fact it is something
I thoroughly enjoy especially when it is a haunted corn maze!
.
28.) Trick or Treating
.
Being almost 30 and without kids I don’t participate in Trick or Treating
anymore, but I do know this is the part of Halloween loved most by
kids and people who hand out candy.
.
29.) Spooky Vibes
.
During the Halloween season everything has a slight eeriness
to it that you won't find any other time of year and I am here for it.
.
30.) It Is All Inclusive
.
Unlike Thanksgiving, Christmas, Valentine's Day and other big
holidays, Halloween is a holiday everyone can celebrate
regardless of religion or background.
.
31.) FUN
.
Halloween is one of the only holidays where there
is no pressure to actually celebrate the holiday. No forced family
gatherings and no one calling you scrooge for not decorating. It is literally
a holiday that is all about what you make of it and you can go as
big or as little as you want. Plus with all the extra events and
special treats it is hard to not have fun during the Halloween season.
.
.
So what did you think of my list? Were there reasons I left out?
What is your favorite holiday and why? Let me know in the comments!
