Finding the Best…Chocolate Chip Cookie Edition
It is officially the time of year where making (and eating!) dozens upon dozens of cookies is totally accepted and welcomed, which also means it is the perfect time to go on the hunt to find the best chocolate chip cookie. So Nicole and I rounded up 8 different cookie recipes from various sources, spent an afternoon baking, and ate our way to the best of the best chocolate chip cookie. Down below you will find the list of recipes that we used for this little experiment and then of course, finally, our rankings from our blind taste test! We hope you enjoy!
THE RECIPES
.
Most pinned recipe
Pinterest is one of the first places I go if I ever need to find a recipe so this first recipe is the most pinned (aka the most popular) chocolate chip cookie recipe on Pinterest.
.
Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
This is another Pinterest recipe that I had already saved on my baking board that claims to be the best soft chocolate chip cookie recipe. With a claim like that I knew we needed to try this one out as well.
.
Google search
https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/10813/best-chocolate-chip-cookies/
Not everyone goes to Pinterest to find a recipe so the next place I went to find the “best” chocolate chip cookie recipe was good ol Google. I added this recipe from allrecipes.com to the list because it was the most popular chocolate chip cookie recipe that came up from my search.
.
Nestlé cookies
We found this recipe on the backside of the chocolate chip bag and decided we should try it out as well!
.
Betty Crocker Pre Packaged Cookies
I don’t know about you, but I love pre packaged cookies. They are quick and easy to throw together in a pinch and they honestly don’t taste half bad! It simply wouldn’t have been a competition to find the best chocolate chip cookie without having this very popular option in the running.
.
Annie's Organic Cookies
Annie’s is one of Nicole’s favorite food brands so of course we had to see how their organic place and bake chocolate chip cookies compared to the others on our list.
.
Pillsbury Chocolate Chip Cookies Log
Pillsbury is such a well known baking brand so of course we knew we had to include them in the competition as well.
.
Nicole’s Mom’s Cookies
An official homemade recipe from Nicole’s childhood home written in young Nicole’s own handwriting! We didn’t have any specific baking instructions, as you can see from the picture, so using the listed ingredients we baked the cookies at 350 degrees for about 9-11 minutes.
THE RANKINGS
.
8. Annie’s Organic Cookies
These cookies were, unfortunately, the obvious losers. They tasted overdone (although looking at them they looked the perfect chocolate chip cookie in my opinion), they were dry, and according to Nicole uncomfortable to eat overall. I guess not everything is meant to be organic.
7. Nestle
I am honestly surprised that this recipe was so low in the rankings however in the blind taste test these cookies were met with comments such as “strange”, “bitter”, and “bland” landing them a measly 7th place standing.
6. Best Soft Chocolate Chip Cookies
These cookies looked like little chocolate chip cookie poofs and had absolutely no flavor to them at all. It really was like biting into a poof of air. Although I do have to say that they were soft so at least that part of the title wasn’t wrong.
5. Nicole’s Mom’s Cookie Recipe
These cookies fell around the middle of our rankings. Overall they were good, but there wasn’t anything about them that really made them stand out from the rest.
4. Pillsbury
These easy to make cookies from Pillsbury kind of had mixed reactions, but the majority of our taste testers thought that these cookies were really good with a nice rich flavor.
3. All Recipes
The most popular recipe according to Google landed the number three spot in our rankings after each one of our taste testers placed it there during their blind taste tests saying these cookies were very good and chocolatey.
2. Betty Crocker
During the blind taste test these cookies were described as light, airy, and dang good sealing them a second place spot in our rankings.
AND THE BEST CHOCOLATE CHIP COOKIE IS……
1. Most Pinned Recipe
This recipe was easily the most specific and in depth recipe out of them all, but with comments such as “fantastic” and “that is one seriously good cookie” it is very obvious that all that extra work paid off. I could easily sit and eat a whole dozen of these cookies in one sitting with no regrets whatsoever. Hands down the best chocolate chip cookie that I have ever had.

Were you surprised by our rankings? What do you think is the best chocolate chip cookie out there? Is there a recipe you were surprised we didn’t try or one you want us to compare to our winner?
