Finding the Best….Sugar Cookie Edition
Sugar cookies are a Christmas special and baking them
is a great activity to do with the whole family. Now, even though
I am not a huge fan of sugar cookies in general I decided, with
them being such a Christmas staple, that it would be fun to try and
find the best sugar cookie recipe (much like Nicole and I did with
chocolate chip cookies! You can check out that article here!). So to
start my experiment I went to Walmart and grabbed one of every
sugar cookie I could find, picked out sugar cookie recipes from my
cookbooks, and set out on my quest to find the best sugar cookie
(with a little help as you will see below). Scroll down to see the results!

The Rankings
.
#7: Walmart Frosted Sugar Cookies
You know them. You see them sitting out when you first walk in.
You buy them out of pure desperation because let’s be honest, these
cookies are not that great. Don’t let the perfect frosting job fool you, these
cookies are heavy and dry and without at least a glass
of milk are ones you won’t be eating many of.
.
#6: Pillsbury Place and Bake
Better than the Walmart frosted sugar cookies, but not by much.
These cookies, even though they have a cute little design, are
not only tiny, but also just overall “meh” tasting cookies.
.
#5: Betty Crocker
These were one of the only sugar cookies I used cookie cutters
with. The shapes turned out well, but the cookies overall were a
little thin and crunchy (which could have been my fault). The
overall taste of the cookies though was pretty decent.
.
#4: Alma’s
I had never heard of this brand before, but I was definitely
pleasantly surprised. They were a little sweeter tasting than the
other cookies. We also
decided that these cookies taste better when frosted.
Would make them again though.
.
#3: Pillsbury Sugar Cookie Log
These cookies in the blind taste test were met with surprisingly
rave reviews. They had a great texture that was just the right amount of
crunchy and when topped off with icing made for one
pretty great sugar cookie.
.
#2: Great Value
It came as a real shock to everyone when these cookies
made it so high in the rankings. However, they were more than
deserving of their second place win! I will admit they were the only
cookies that cooled in the fridge before baking so I’m not sure if that
played a role in their overall taste, but man were they
some amazing cookies.

#1: Pioneer Woman Sugar Cookies!
It was an extremely close race between the second place
cookies and these, but in the end these cookies were hands down
my favorite (and no that is not just my Pioneer Woman bias talking. lol)!
These cookies were the perfect combination of airy and crunchy and
they were packed with so much sugar cookie flavor that they made all
the rest (aside from the second place cookies) seem tasteless.
