Hosting a Harry Potter Movie Marathon

If you are a Potterhead you know that July 31st is

Harry’s birthday and, if you are as big of a Potter fan

as me then you know you cannot let this day go by

unnoticed! So this year, on that day, my friend Makenzie

and I decided there was no better way to celebrate than

with our very own Harry Potter movie marathon. It was

definitely a daunting task, but with a rock solid plan in

place it was definitely one we knew we could accomplish.

Scroll on down to see how we did it!

Movie Runtime

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone: 2 hours 39 minutes

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets: 2 hours 54 minutes

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban: 2 hours 22 minutes

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire: 2 hours 37 minutes

.

NAP BREAK

We decided once we reached the halfway point we

had enough time to take a much needed 2 hour nap.

.

Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix: 2 hours 22 minutes

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince: 2 hours 34 minutes

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt.1: 2 hours 26 minutes

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2: 2 hours 10 minutes

TOTAL MARATHON RUNTIME: 19 hours 43 minutes

.

Food

For this marathon I had all the typical unhealthy movie

snacks including popcorn, chips, pretzels, pizza, and

candy as well as some specific Harry Potter themed

food. These special recipes came from my Binging with

Babish cookbook and included the following:

.

Treacle Tart (this legit came out tasting exactly like pancakes and syrup!)

Pumpkin Pasties (I am not typically a huge fan of pumpkin, but these were quite delicious.)

.

Butterbeer (Is a Harry Potter marathon even complete without this?!)

.

Binging with Babish Harry Potter Special Recipes

.

And of course….what kind of a birthday celebration

would it be without a cake?! I tried my best to replicate

the cake Hagrid brings to Harry in the first movie, words

and all. I have tried this recreation before in the past

(and I think the lettering turned out better the first time), but

at least there are some similarities between mine and Hagrid’s!

Decorations and Costumes

This year I didn’t have much in the way of decorations. The

other time I hosted this marathon I printed out these

house pictures and laid out the HP boxed book set I have.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to find my decorations and

opted to just use my books and Harry Potter themed shirts.

I also decided to dress in my house colors soooo where

are all my Ravenclaws at?!

(Fun fact, in the movies Ravenclaw’s colors are blue and

silver, but in the books Ravenclaw’s actual colors are blue

and bronze. The producers of the movie actually changed

the colors because Gryffindor and Hufflepuff also had

yellow/gold in them and they thought changing out the bronze for

silver would make it more visually pleasing.)

My friend Makenzie is a Gryffindor so she also dressed

up sporting that maroon and gold.

Movie marathons are always so much fun and this definitely

won’t be my last HP marathon! If you haven’t done one

before I highly recommend you try it out especially with

Harry Potter!
