Foodie Friday: The Scheme - Salina, KS
This Foodie Friday choice was a bit of a last minute one and had been moved
up on the list after guys at Justin's work had hyped it up. However, after our
dinner there Justin, our friend Danny, and I found the place to actually be
overhyped. 😲 Find out why below!

The three of us walked into The Scheme and were immediately struck by the
interesting decor inside which was a mix of like western saloon/1800s style/man cave/bohemian/eclectic/pizzeria.
.
.
We chose a table right by the front window below a menagerie of plants
and slid into the awkwardly shaped booths. (I don't know what it was, but
these booths were straight up hard to get in and out of.)
.
Our waitress was at our table fairly quickly asking us if we had been into
The Scheme before. None of us had so she continued on telling us about
their dinner menu which was solely pizza (for lunch they do have other options) and
that they are a cash only establishment. Luckily my boys had some cash on them
so we stayed and put in our drink orders.
.
The boys ordered tea and our waitress told us that they actually make their
tea in-house and that it is made with cloves. She also told us that it contains
a TON of caffeine so order at your own risk. Lol It definitely was interesting
tasting a bit like Christmas/gingerbread. Justin didn't mind it but Danny and
I both agreed we wouldn't order it again. Lol
.
When she returned with our drinks it was pizza ordering time. Danny and
I are not veggies on our pizza people while Justin is so we decided to go
with a split pizza. Danny and I's half had hamburger and pepperoni on it
while Justin's had that plus jalapeños and mushrooms.
.
I'm not going to lie….we waited a LONG time for our pizza to actually come
out. We even saw some people who got there after us get their food first.
However, after a little over 30 minutes our pizza arrived.
.
.
Here it was. The hyped up "best pizza in the universe." One bite in annnnnnd
I was disappointed. The crust was crunchy and perfect, exactly how I like it
and when you added honey (as suggested) to it it was even better.
.
.
The cheese was also good, but suuuuuper stringy making it a messy eating affair.
However, the overall taste
of the pizza is where it really fell short for me. It 1000% needed more sauce
and more seasoning. It was pretty bland, especially the hamburger which tasted
like they just simply threw some ground beef in a pan, cooked it, and then
threw it on top of the pizza without any type of seasoning at all. Definitely not
the “best pizza in the universe” as they claim.

Justin and Danny’s Final Ratings:
.
Danny ending up giving the place an overall rating of 7/10
and Justin gave it an 8/10 (with food only being 5/10 though).
.
They said they both liked the building and the way that it was
decorated inside (which concerns me a little if I'm being honest lol) a lot more than the
food or the actual atmosphere of the place. They also agreed that we
had to wait too long for the pizza which unfortunately ended up being
overhyped in their opinions as well.
.
The Scheme Stats:
.
Service: 8/10
Food: 6/10
Cleanliness/Decor: 4/10
Price: $$$
Overall Rating: 6/10
.
The service is seriously what saved this place from getting an even lower rating.
Our waitress we had that night really knew her stuff and she was good at keeping
tabs on us. Unfortunately, the food as I have said multiple times now just wasn’t
where I expected it to be which is even more depressing considering the price.
I think we ended up paying almost $40 for pizza that none of us really liked all
that much. I would have rather gone to Dominoes which is quite the statement
from me since I am a Pizza Hut stan all the way.
