Foodie Friday: Chuck's Bar - Salina, KS

A dinner "date" with one of my friends, ole Dan the Man Hett, landed us at a spot

that has actually been on my Foodie Friday list for quite a while, Chuck's Bar.

Pulling up to Chuck's Bar I was immediately taken aback by the size of the place

and honestly how cool it looked from the outside. I'll admit that I was expecting

a small little hole in the wall place especially when I saw the area of town it was

in so talk about a pleasant surprise. We walked in through the front door and stood

there in the doorway for a little while trying to figure out where we wanted to sit.

We ended up landing on a hightop table, until the server came over and asked us to

go sit at the bar since he "was the only server" that night. Of course we obliged and

bellied up to the bar where we finally got a chance to look over the menu and pick out our food.

After some menu research we were ready to place our orders. Danny went first

ordering us the Hangover Pub Fries and himself the Jesse James burger with tater tots.

.

.

Next it was my turn and I went with the easiest choice of

them all, the mac & cheese burger with a side of waffle fries.

Danny's Review:

.

Overall Danny ended up giving the place a solid 8/10 saying his food was really good

and actually some of the best BBQ he has ever had. It had a good flavorful spicy taste

to it and in fact if he was rating just the food he would have given the place a 10/10

saying he couldn't have cooked it better himself. He also said that the service was good, but

that they could have definitely played some more upbeat music if you wanted to be super

picky. Overall he said it is a "really good place if you aren't in a hurry."

Chuck's Bar Final Stats:

Service: 4/10

Food: 8/10

Cleanliness/Décor: 8/10

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 6.7/10

This place left me with some mixed emotions. As I mentioned earlier it was a lot nicer

than I was expecting and the decor managed to be extremely rustic without being

tacky. I also dug the atmosphere of the place and could easily see how on a Friday

or Saturday night this would be THE place to go to hang out with friends and maybe

even listen to some live music. The food, once it came out, was absolutely delicious.

The mac and cheese on my burger was nice and creamy and overall the burger had good

flavor. My only complaint is that I wish there was more mac and cheese on the burger. lol

Unfortunately the service is where this place loses some points and brings in my mixed

emotions. We arrived at Chuck's about 7:30 and got our orders in by about 7:45. We

didn't get our food until about 8:45. An hour later. AND not only that, BUT we didn't get

the hangover fries we ordered either because they didn't have any gravy which we

sadly we didn't find out until right before we got our other food. Now I do want to clarify that

this low service rating has nothing to do with our server who was absolutely great. She

did a great job checking on us, was super friendly, and was actually the one that got our

food out to us quicker after she supposedly went and tracked down the cook who was

spending some time in his car rather than cooking the food. lol Honestly I would probably

return to this place because the food was actually really good I just will do it when, as

Danny said, I'm not in a hurry. lol
