Foodie Friday: Salt City Brewing Company - Hutchinson, KS

When your bestie, your sista from another mista, your number one since pretty much

day one, flies in from Massachusetts you gotta take her out to dinner and when I suggested

we try out a restaurant on my Foodie Friday list Kristin was definitely excited. I sent her three

options and we landed on Salt City Brewing Company in Hutch which actually happened to

be a recommendation from another friend of mine (shoutout to Caleb!). Scroll on down to read

about Kristin and I's first (of hopefully many) Foodie Friday's together!

Kristin and I walked in through the doors to Salt City and seated ourselves at a small

two person table in the middle of the open concept restaurant and our waitress was

there almost immediately with menus ready to take our drink orders.

.

.

We both started out with waters, but put a drink order in when our waitress returned.

Kristin went with the patio colada and I went with the Moscow mule (minus the vodka because, well, ew. lol)

.

.

We also decided to put in an order of the delicious sounding Irish nachos for an appetizer.

.

.

A few chips into the nachos and about a quarter of our drinks later it was time to put in our main course orders. Kristin went first ordering the Lobster Mac

.

.

and then I went with the club and a side of fries.

On the drive home from Hutchinson Kristin told me she thought everything tasted really great. It

was all exactly what you were expecting and the flavors blended and came through really well

especially with her main meal. In fact individually the main meal itself was 10/10 along with her

drink which she said was perfect for summer, didn't have any overpowering flavors, and lacked the

taste of alcohol which could be either a good or bad thing depending. lol She also said that her

meal was a pretty good value for lobster considering how much lobster they gave her and the

fact that anywhere on the coast it would have been easily over $25 for the same meal. She said the

lobster itself tasted really good as well even compared to the lobster she has had on the coast in

places like Maine. The nachos, however, ranked a little lower for her. She said they were good, but

while there was a lot of cheese she would have liked there to have been more of the other toppings

as well. The atmosphere for Kristin was great and she said she liked how it looked on the inside, but

that it certainly isn't a place you go if you want some "privacy" and is rather a great spot for

gamedays or similar events. Oh and the doggo gets a 20/10. lol Finally the only negative Kristin had

to give me was that our waitress didn't really check on us much at all, but she wasn't sure if

that was just because she was the only one working or not.

Service: 8/10

Food: 8/10

Cleanliness/Décor: 9/10

Price: $$

Overall Rating: 8.3/10

The iron industrial look of this open concept space with the dark wood accents and tall windows

definitely helped create the perfect chill vibe for this brewery. It would be a great place to

come, sit, have a few drinks, celebrate something, listen to some live music, and of course pet

the adorable and sweet doggo that will most likely be roaming around the place. Speaking of

drinks, I definitely think that is where this place shines providing a LONG list of options, some

of which just might get you in trouble as the lack of alcohol flavor makes you forget you are drinking

as you order round after round. The food here is pretty good, however, my biggest complaint

is that everything I tried was a little on the dry side, but that could just be a play to get you to

order more drinks orrrr just my own personal preference of having loads of sauce on my food.

I do also agree with Kristin that I would have liked to have seen more toppings on the nachos, especially

more of the pulled pork, but y'all that beer cheese that was on the nachos was fire. It was

creamy and probably one of the best beer cheeses I have ever tried leaning more the queso route

and lacking the beer taste that normally turns me away. The fries I had with my club were probably

the star of my main course and had a really good salty seasoning that made their lack of crunch

still worth every addicting bite. Finally let's touch on the service. I do have to agree with Kristin

that our waitress didn't check on us a ton, but we really weren't in any hurry or in desperate need

of anything and when she did check on us she was nice. The food also came out surprisingly fast

as well so that helped achieve a higher service score. Overall this is certainly a cool main street

hang spot that I would return to again!
