Foodie Friday: The Brandin' Iron - Florence, KS
I was about as shocked to find out that Florence had a main street as I was to find that it
had a brand new restaurant. Sorry Florencians (Florence Natives? What do y'all call
yourselves? lol) but for some reason Florence always seemed like a bit of a ghost town to me.
lol However, when Kristin told me on our Salt City date that this new place had just opened
up in town I knew we had to go and give it a try. Luckily she was able to make it fit in her
schedule to do a Saturday lunch and we dragged her family along with us as well! It was an
absolute blast! Scroll on down for our thoughts!

Our clan moseyed in off the quiet main street and was immediately struck by the beautiful
rustic décor inside continuously finding new things to point out the longer we scanned
the room. We were seated in the middle of the restaurant right underneath one of the
large windmill head fans and began to peruse the menu.
.
.
For appetizers we put in an order of fried pickles
.
.
and then later some chicken wings coated with their house made BBQ sauce that
was hands down some of the best BBQ sauce I have ever had on, well, anything.
.
.
We made it all the way through the fried pickles and then it was time to put in our main meal orders. Gerry went with the BLT with a side of baked potato
.
.
Timothy had the chicken and waffles with a side of fries.
.
.
After finding out that sadly the Philly cheesesteak he had his heart set on was
sold out John decided to go with a patty melt with a side of fries.
.
.
Kristin stuck to her Massachusetts habits and went with an order of fish and chips along with the beautiful Kansas Punch drink.
.
.
and finally I ordered the mac and cheese and added on pulled pork of course.

Crew Reviews:
.
.
Timothy - 10/10
.
"Very good. I liked the crispiness of the chicken and the softness of the waffle. And the fries were seasoned good."
.
John - 9/10
.
"Really good, but the marble rye bread made it really dry." Sadly the unique choice of marble rye bread wasn't a winner for John, but that was his only complaint as he handed out various other compliments to the place saying he liked the BBQ sauce on the wings, the homemade table signs, and just overall aesthetic. Atmosphere won a 10/10 from him.
.
Gerry - 10/10
.
Gerry said that she also liked the décor and that the food was good.
.
Kristin - 10/10
.
Kristin started out her review saying she thought they had really good portions of food and that the service from both of our waitresses was great. "You can see they are invested in making the place successful." She also said that it is really easy with fried food to get it overdone, but thought her food and the appetizers had a great flavor profile and she really liked the sweetness found throughout. She also of course loved the atmosphere and the décor.
.
Before I get to the final review one quick thing I wanted to add in was the really cool and unique way they deliver your ticket to you. Each ticket comes out in an old vintage book and they said they call these their "check-books." How cute!

AND WE HAVE A PERFECT SCORE! It has been a little bit since we have had a restaurant
walk away with a perfect score and to have such a new one receive this rating is pretty impressive.
As was mentioned time and time again in the reviews above the interior of this restaurant, while
not my personal style, is really stunning in its rustic way and fits the theme of the place
perfectly. The atmosphere they created with it somehow manages to make it feel like a place you
can eat at after working in the field all morning covered head to toe in dirt, yet still fancy enough
to not feel completely out of place in a nicer outfit. The service here is also amazing. I agree with
Kristin that it was obvious to see that they care about making the restaurant succeed and the
entire time we were there we were met with great attentiveness and overall sweetness that
really added to making our experience great. Oh and you know what else helped us have a great
experience? The food! Y'all I'm pretty sure I could eat that mac and cheese for every meal
and, like I said earlier, the BBQ sauce on the wings and my pulled pork was some of the best I
have ever had. It had an addictive sweetness to it that made me want to keep eating more and
more and luckily for me they did give us some pretty good sized portions. So. If you find yourself
looking for a place to eat lunch, or even a late breakfast, then I say you should definitely give this place a try.
